Body Shop Myths: Insurance Company Referral

Do I have to go to one of the shops my insurance company refers me to?

Ever wonder why our slogan is ‘Your Car, Your Choice?’ Let us break down the legislation that secured you this right and what to look for when selecting a shop to repair your vehicle. Because at ProCare Collision Center, we believe knowledge is power.

We believe you deserve to know your rights when getting your vehicle repaired. It’s crucial that you are aware of your options during difficult times, such as a car accident. We want to help you hold on tight to the things that remain in your control. We operate under the firm belief “Your Car, Your Choice” for a reason. Something we never want you to think is: “I have to go to one of the shops my insurance company refers me to for repairs.”

The Anti-Steering Legislation states that it is YOUR CHOICE where you get your vehicle repaired and without penalty, ensuring that your coverage remains the same no matter the shop you select to do your repairs. Just because the shop you prefer might not be in your insurance’s network does not mean that you might have to pay more out of pocket or, even worse, not be covered at all. When calling to file the claim, your insurance representative may, while not stating it, imply that you must choose from the one or two body shops within their network. Remember, you are not obligated to choose between the two network shops. It is your car and your choice to select a competent, dependable collision repair facility that you trust and feel you will receive the highest quality repair and service to restore your vehicle to its pre-loss condition properly.

Oftentimes your insurance recommends body shops that they have an existing contract with, resulting in the shop’s allegiance to the insurer first. This incentivized relationship between insurer and repair shop does not guarantee a quality and safe repair or the best customer care. At worst, the repair could be compromised. The repair shop could have motive to repair your vehicle with cheaper parts and take shorter cuts to save the insurer money. Even though you are likely to get faster service from your insurer by going in-network, you are not guaranteed quality service. Call ProCare first, no matter the time, and rest assured that our team at ProCare Collision Center will stand by your side from the moment of the collision until we return your repaired vehicle to you.

We operate under the principle that we work for you and not the insurance company. With our roadside assistance, free loaner vehicle opportunities, and expert service with insurance claims, you’ll never doubt that we have your best interests at heart.

Regardless of the shop you choose, even if it’s not us, you deserve to know that no matter how out of control you may feel after being in a collision, some things are still in your control. Our priority is to be there for you! “Your Car, Your Choice” is our tagline for a reason because we believe knowledge is power.
